F.A.Q.

How does this system work, can I buy the insulation?

This is not a DIY product. You will have to send in your headers/parts to us and our specialists will install the system.  It’s an intricate and time consuming process we use to apply the layers of the system.

What is our turn around time?

Around 2-3 weeks.

Do I need to get everything done?

No, you can get as few or as many parts shielded as you like.

What insulation is used?

Header Shield is a 2+ layer system, the inner thermal blanket layer is rated to 1250°c continuous and will not melt until 1590°c, the outer layer is a 304 stainless steel shell that can be welded to nearly any of your stainless steel, inconel or mild steel parts, + there is an air gap under the shell that adds more thermal resistance.

How thick is it?

Our standard insulation system adds 3mm on all sides (6mm diameter), we can customise a thicker barrier with more inner layers, or thinner where its required, though we only consider thinner “areas” for clearance issues.

What is the difference to fiber glass exhaust wrap?

Approximately double the heat reduction, extra longevity is another benefit. Header Shield blocks both Air flow (convective heat transfer) and radiant heat transfer. while exhaust wrap mostly blocks radiant since air still flows between the fibers. Glass fibers also soften at or before 550°c so a red hot pipe will eventually have the fiberglass falling apart.

What is the difference to Ceramic coating?

Ceramic coating reduces both forms of heat as does HeaderShield but at a significantly reduced rate compared to Header Shield.

How do I know if my car needs header shield?

High temperatures in engine bay causing wiring degradation, brake fade, rising intake temperatures.
